When the Sun Hits is a feature length film concerned with the delicate relationship between the individual and the whole. A young man named John has fallen into a state of social paralysis since his father's death. He no longer knows how to relate to others and the world around him. Rather than looking to friends and family for support he closes himself off. After the mysterious disappearance of his mother, John blames himself for her leaving. A young man named John has fallen into a state of social paralysis since his father's death. He no longer knows how to relate to others and the world around him. Rather than looking to friends and family for support he closes himself off. After the mysterious disappearance of his mother, John blames himself for her leaving. He tries his best to reconnect with his old life, but finds himself making the same mistakes over and over. When his friend Tracy reaches out to him, he bitterly rejects her and once again finds himself alone. It is then that John puts his old life behind him and sets off to make amends with his mother. John has no idea where his mother might be or if she will accept him. Nonetheless, he reaches into the abyss to see if someone is there, waiting for him. The structure of the film is nonlinear as it deviates from traditional narrative form. The intent of this thesis is to serve as a post-film reflection that discusses the relation between my views on cinema and the film I made. The paper will shift between the general themes of the narrative and the film theory working behind it all. It will explore the idea of cinema as an extension of the mind and how this is present in the film. By using specific examples from the film this theory of cinema can be fleshed out and an insight into my process may be gleaned.

- A MARXIAN CONCEPT OF HUMAN NATURE IN DEFENSE OF ALIENATION: A REVOLUTIONARY EXEGESIS OF A REVOLUTIONARY PHILOSOPHY.

- Abstract / Description
-
Two long-standing and erroneous claims have plagued Marxism for the past century. First, Marx held no static view of human-nature. Second, Marx's theory of alienation was the naïve view of a young Marx, which was jettisoned in his wiser adult years. Both views are demonstrable false. Moreover, the validity of his theory of human nature, and alienation, are contingent upon the acceptance of each other. One cannot fully comprehend his view of alienation without understanding his view of human...
Show moreTwo long-standing and erroneous claims have plagued Marxism for the past century. One cannot fully comprehend his view of alienation without understanding his view of human nature, and vice versa. Upon demonstrating Marx's theory of human nature, and defending it as a crucial bedrock for the theory of alienation, mainstream rejections of each will be considered, and critiqued. The constant misunderstanding of Marx's theory of human nature comes in his unique theory of essence. He is an essentialist, with a fluid conception of man's essence. One's historical essence is an ensemble of socio-historical reflections, dialectically interplaying off a historically transcending essentialism.

- HOW SPORTS FRANCHISES COMMUNICATE VIA SOCIAL MEDIA.
- Creator
-
Jones, Christopher, Coombs, Timothy, University of Central Florida
- Abstract / Description
-
The aim of the research is to evaluate how professional sport organizations communicate via social media and lay groundwork on how to effectively do so in the future. The research focuses on the history of social media and its involvement in sport, how it's used today, examples of effective communication and how it can eventually drive revenue for a sport franchise and build a stronger fan base at the same time.

Passive coherent location (PCL) systems use signals of opportunity to perform traditional radar detection, targeting, and tracking functions. Traditionally these signals include FM radio, digital TV, GSM, and GPS because of their availability in most urban environments. A benefit of having an abundance of signals is the ability to choose which of those best meet the desired system intentions. Show morePassive coherent location (PCL) systems use signals of opportunity to perform traditional radar detection, targeting, and tracking functions. Traditionally these signals include FM radio, digital TV, GSM, and GPS because of their availability in most urban environments. A benefit of having an abundance of signals is the ability to choose which of those best meet the desired system intentions. For example, one may want to choose a digital TV signal over an FM radio signal due to its range resolution characteristics. This work presents a novel algorithm for characterizing commercial signals for use in a PCL system. By analyzing each signal's ambiguity function in terms of amplitude, transmitter geometry, range and Doppler resolution, and sidelobe levels, a comparative evaluation can be made to decide which signals are best suited for an intended radar function. In addition, this research shows that multiple signals can be combined in the detection process to increase the probability of detection over that of a single signal. Finally, this research investigates the geometric considerations for PCL systems in terms of bistatic radar geometry. The results show zones of linear and non-linear relationships between time delay, range, and Doppler frequency.
